Developing Every Child's Potential
Small Measures prides itself in providing outstanding evaluations for children with suspected or confirmed developmental / behavioral difficulties.
Our evaluations include a thorough review of records, history, testing and written report. Evaluations are generally between 90-120 minutes and treatment sessions are individualized and generally run 60 minutes. We strongly encourage a one time sit down 30 minute parent only meeting to review the testing results and review diagnoses (if any) and treatment recommendations. There is a small fee for this but most families prefer this sit down meeting rather than trying to figure out what the testing means on their own from the written report. It is this one on one education session that really makes Small Measures stand out from other testing and treatment centers.
Speech and language are terms that are often confused, but there is a distinction between the two. Speech is the verbal expression of language. It is how a message is communicated. Language is made up of socially shared rules. It is what idea is communicated in the message. Although problems in speech and language are different, they can overlap. A child’s speech may be difficult to understand, but he can use words and phrases to express his thoughts. A child with difficulty comprehending and using spoken speech may be able to pronounce sounds clearly or a child can use phrases and speak clearly but not understand directions and questions.
